Social and networking events at Web Direc­tions South

Meet new people at our Opening Night Reception and fully catered breaks in the Expo area; have a few drinks at our Closing Night Social and then be up bright and early for Amped on the Saturday morning.

Opening night reception

When: Thursday October 14, 5.30–7.00pm
Where: Sydney Convention and Exhi­bition Centre

On October 14, at the conference venue, and included in your conference ticket, there’s the Web Direc­tions South reception — food and drink and plenty to talk about after an action packed day. Plan on coming along: this party is always a high­light of the conference.

Closing night social

When: October 15, 5.30–8.00pm
Where: The Watershed (direc­tions)

After the conference wraps up on Friday October 15 we’ll retire for a few drinks (just 200m from the conference venue), then early to bed so everyone can be up bright eyed and bushy tailed for Amped on Saturday morning.

Amped: The Hack Day reloaded

Amped is the hack day, reloaded: high energy, diversity, and breaking the hacker stereotype. If geeks are the new rock­stars, then Amped is our Lolla­palooza. And even better, thanks to our partners, Amped is free!

We’ve taken the tradi­tional hack day, pulled it apart, thought long and hard about what’s great, what’s not so great, and how as many different kinds of web folks can come together for one intense 10 hour period of hacking, designing and making amazing things.

The Grand Prize is a once in a life time, all expenses paid trip to Japan to attend Web Direc­tions East for the four top placegetters. Plus there’s a tonne of amazing prizes from our partners to be won.

Amped is about exploring, learning and playing with new tech­nology, new ideas, and cele­brating design and tech­nology.

Amped will be a free high energy day of hacking followed by an awards ceremony and a great party. The day will be struc­tured into chal­lenges, to focus partic­i­pants’ minds on possible projects for the day. Tech­nology related activ­ities will take place throughout the day, adding to the carnival atmos­phere.
